Reverend Roy Eco

NAFP-USA Representative – Region 11

Diocese of Orlando, Florida

Dear Fr. Eco:

I wish to officially acknowledge with great excitement and deep joy the receipt of your email communication regarding the affirmative decision of the Filipino Clergy of the Diocese of Orlando to host the 2nd National Assembly of Filipino Priests-USA in 2014. We welcome such awesome news with profound gratitude for your graciousness to open the doors of your diocese in order to provide the critical venue for Filipino priests all over the United States gather together to foster priestly fraternity, unity and solidarity as well as to promote support for each other in carrying out our pastoral ministry and provide opportunities for continuing formation so we become more effective partners in the evangelizing mission of our Church in America.

During our last National Leadership Council meeting held in New York three weeks ago, we were blessed with the accomplishment of a proposed final draft of the Constitution and By-laws for the National Association of Filipino Priests –USA. It was a challenging process to engage 20 brilliant men in an intellectual calisthenics. The discussion was a tedious task marred by heated debate and arguments. But God’s grace was with us all along the way and His gift of wisdom helped us achieved a fruitful process to be able to accomplish the task we had hoped for.

Before the end of the meeting, when the agenda for the next National Assembly was finally discussed and the Diocese of Orlando was immediately proposed, I did not have an iota of doubt and personally felt that it was God’s providence. After all, the concept of NAFP-USA was born in Orlando. Those twenty six (26) priests whom I invited and attended that first dream session and goal setting four years ago still hold dearly in their minds and heart fond memories of the very warm hospitality afforded us. So, we are already aware of the big hearts of the Filipino clergy and the laity of your diocese from the nascent stage of pursuing our common but elusive aspiration to hold a national gathering for all Filipino priests and eventually to form a national association. The fruit of that initial gathering  and consequent planning was our first ever and very successful National Assembly last year.

It is for this aforementioned that I have so much faith on the capabilities of the Filipino priests and confidence in the unwavering support of the lay community in Orlando to host our next national assembly. Your feverish reaction and enthusiastic readiness of the Orlando clergy as host is quite inspiring. Hence, on behalf of all our Pinoy priests and myself personally, please accept our sincerest and profound gratitude for your generosity to host the 2nd National Assembly of Filipino Priests-USA in 2014.

I truly look forward to the first meeting of the members of the Executive Board with the Pinoy priests and lay leaders of your diocese before the end of this year to start planning and laying the foundational work for another exciting and grace filled national assembly.

With prayerful wishes of God’s bountiful blessings to all of you, I remain

Fraternally yours in Christ,
Bishop Oscar A. Solis
