Hymn Writing Contest

Hymn Writing Contest Details:

The 3rd NAFP National Assembly carries the theme, “Faithfully and joyfully sharing God’s mercy.” It is the goal of the assembly to promote the theme of the 3rd National Assembly to all Christians through this hymn writing competition. It carries $500.00 for the grand prize winner, $300 for the second prize winner, and $200 for the 3rd prize winner. Our 2017 contest will be a search for a hymn that celebrates God’s mercy and love, and how we respond to the call to share His mercy to others.
This is a search for new text and an original tune. Scripture-based text is certainly welcome. The text may be in a different language other than English, e.g., Spanish or any Filipino dialect. Please provide a translation of the text with your submission. Hymns previously published or currently entered in other contests should not be submitted. A musical notation of the composition, clearly marked with performance notes, must be submitted. A recording of the composition may accompany the musical notation but is not required. Recordings should be in an mp3 format. There is a $5.00 administrative fee for each hymn submitted, and checks should be made payable to “Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston –NAFP” with “Hymn Contest” noted in the memo field. Entrants should provide one copy of each hymn with copyright information clearly printed on the document. In addition, the line “Commissioned by the National Association of Filipino Priests in America” should be added below the copyright information.
Please provide a cover letter with your name, address, e-mail address, telephone number, and the title of your entry/entries. Limit two entries per composer. All entries will be acknowledged within two weeks of receipt. All entries must be postmarked by May 15, 2017. The judges will arrive at their decision by June 15, 2017 and their decision is final. The winning hymns will be announced after the winners have been notified. Only three winning hymns will be awarded. Each entrant will receive notification of the contest winners and a copy of the winning hymns. Copyright for the winning hymns will be retained by the author, but the author agrees to permit the use of this hymn by the National Association of Filipino Priests in America in perpetuity.
